Chunky Bend?

Boyettes Fish CampI am often asked, where I came up with a name like Chunky Bend. There is a section of the Chunky River in the eastern edge of Newton County, Mississippi that makes a very noticeable “bend”. This bend starts just outside of the town of Chunky and goes under a train bridge and Highway 80 and runs north almost to Interstate 20 and then back down to Highway 80 and another train bridge within a couple hundred yards of the first bridges.I greatly enjoy canoeing or “floating”, as it is called, this section of river. It offers good fishing and several good swimming holes with rope swings. At the end of the journey you find Boyette’s Fish Camp. The fish camp is a rustic restaurant overlooking the Chunky River with some of the best seafood I have ever eaten. Their special is usually “all-you-can-eat” catfish filets, but I recommend the fried pop-corn shrimp. In any event, this is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon floating around the bend.
